The mission of Locate South Carolina Partnership, a non-
profit organization, is to promote economic development
within our region and to cement its reputation as a home
for industry in all sectors. The region offers a variety of
resources to companies, including long-term cost savings,
a strategic Southeast location, a favorable tax climate,
and a high quality of life.
Our economic development team consists of professionals prepared to quickly assess site location needs and present sites and existing buildings that will meet our clients’ business needs. Working with the South Carolina Department of Commerce, the Partnership prepares incentive packages that are among the most competitive offered in the Southeastern United States.
Reason 1South Carolina has been ranked the fifth “Most Business-Friendly State” for the past four years (Pollina Corporation). In addition, the state was ranked the fifth “Most Dynamic State for Entrepreneurs” by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Reason 2The Palmetto State has one of the lowest corporate income tax rates in the Southeast United States and has no state property tax; no local income tax; no inventory tax; no sales tax on manufacturing machinery, industrial power or materials for finished products; no wholesale tax; and no unitary tax on worldwide profits
Reason 3Industrial power costs in South Carolina average only 5.74 cents per kilowatt hour (about 16% less than the national average)
Reason 4The state is home to a number of multinational corporations that include BAE Systems, Boeing, Bosch, Bridgestone-Firestone South Carolina, BMW, Fujifilm, GlaxoSmithKline, Google, General Electric, Kimberly-Clark, Metso Paper, Pepperidge Farm, Rieter Automotive Systems, Roche, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, United Parcel Service, Urban Outfitters, Kronotex, Areva, Tognum/MTU Diesel, Georgia Pacific, Kronotex, Clariant, Scotsman, Goodrich, Le Creuset, UPS, and GlaxoSmithKline.
Reason 5The State’s workforce has one of the lowest unionization rates and lowest work-stoppage rates in the United States. South Carolina offers a customized worker training program that was ranked fourth in the United States by Expansion Management Magazine
Reason 6South Carolina is located halfway between New York City and Miami. South Carolina is also located within 1,000 miles of 35 states and roughly 75% of the total U.S. population (206 million people)
Reason 7Port of Charleston is one of the busiest container ports on the East Coast and the 7th largest container port in the United States. South Carolina has three Foreign Trade Zones and an advanced communications network, as well as an integrated transportation system of highways, airports, seaports and railways
Reason 8South Carolina has a land area of more than 30,000 square miles, with available acreage, modern industrial parks, an abundant supply of water, wet processing sites and available buildings, including customizable promotional buildings.
Reason 9The State’s eastern seaboard provides a perfect climate with four distinct seasons, warm summers and mild winters, and a high-quality lifestyle. South Carolina is home to four of “America’s 50 Hottest Cities” (Expansion Management Magazine) and 400 championship golf courses
Reason 10More than 210,000 students are enrolled in the state’s 33 public institutions and 20 private schools. Additionally, South Carolina has three internationally-recognized university research institutions and is home to one of the United States’ 12 national laboratories
